Movie Review Haiku: The Babadook

Creepy and eerie

Fills you up with lots of dread

Makes you turn away

This might not have been the scariest movie I have ever seen, but it did turn out to have some really frightening moments. Jennifer Kent (the director) made sure not to jump into a scary moment and hope you would be scared. She paced each moment, led you with the camera, held your suspense as you stared into the darkness trying to see what was hiding there. That was when she delivered the punch. It worked almost all the time for me.

On top of that, this movie had a great story, great atmosphere, and great acting from the lead actress Essie Davis who should get some award nominations for her role. She was a real stand out.

I’ve heard a lot of hype about The Babadook. I was happy to find that it lives up to it. A solid movie from start to finish that I would give 3 and a half stars out of 5.

So, have you seen it? What are your thoughts on it?
