Solidly entertaining. It wasn’t the shoot-em up suspense filled can’t stop watching it movie that I thought it was going to be (the description psyched me up and made me think that it was going to be (especially with the cast involved)), but it did entertain me. That’s all we can really ask of a movie, right? Anyway, this one is pretty good if you have Amazon Prime to stream it. A tad slow at times and the movie is a bit longer than it needed to be and it had a bit of unnecessary gore, but overall it was a decent western with some creepy horror undertones.
Two and a half Stars out of Five
An American nanny is shocked that her new English family’s boy is actually a life-sized doll. After she violates a list of strict rules, disturbing events make her believe that the doll is really alive. Source: The Boy (2016) – IMDb
This was an entertaining movie from start to finish, but it wasn’t as creepy or scary as I hoped it would be. It did have a solid cast, decent enough direction and atmosphere, but it never truly lived up to its potential. I also have to add (without giving too much away) that the ending was a total let down. It felt like a cop-out. Like they just didn’t know how to close it so they put in a surprise twist. I won’t say what that twist is, but I didn’t like it at all. My wife did, and we went round and round about it with neither one winning. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one. I will say if you decide to see it find it cheap, wait for DVD or a streaming service. You really don’t need to see it in the theater.
So, have you seen either one of these movies? What are your thoughts on them?
