George reached for his gun.
It was too late.
It only took one werewolf to determine the strongest one in this house, and then this beast tore George into pieces, turning him into a pile of bloody shredded beef.
Suzanne found her center, grabbed a shotgun, and blasted one Werewolf right between the eyes. Its wolf-like head exploded and the body collapsed onto the floor with a sick thud. The other beasts turned towards her, but didn’t attack.
She aimed the gun again, and misfired into the wall, leaving a gigantic smoking hole.
She aimed again, click.
The gun was empty.
She dropped it onto the ground, and then cowered back in the corner, watching the Werewolves fight each other over George’s shredded remains. When they were finished with their feast, only a bloody scarred skull remained from the man who used to be her husband of fifteen years.
As if answering a silent call, the Werewolves turned and ran back out of the hole they had created leaving Suzanne all alone. She didn’t know what to do, as the empty eye sockets in her husband’s skull stared at her, so, she stopped fighting the tears, and cried.
This has been probably the hardest cover to pin down. It is a Western, but it also involves Vampires and Werewolves who operate in the daylight. Where do you begin to design a cover like that. I just couldn’t figure it out, so I plopped down some money to get a professional cover made for it. Thanks goonwrite.com for the cover.
I am partial to the original because I made it all by myself except for the letters. I figured out how to use layers in Gimp to form a red cross. Kind of easy once I figured it out. But now when I look at it all I see is a present with a bow around it. A present isn’t really anything menacing though a killer present with a taste for blood would be. The new cover I think finally captures that evil feeling of dread I want you to have when you look at it. I think it also stands out in a crowd. Who knows really? Short Stories are just a tough sell no matter how great you make them.

Another year. Another massacre looming. When the sun rises on the Old West town of Saltwater Junction this town will face head on two fierce predators. Vampires who stalk you in the sunlight, and werewolves that transform with the sunrise. This short story rewrites the legends and all you’ve ever known about these creatures of the night. Where do you go when there’s no place left to hide?
5 out of 5 Stars – Kudos for a new spin
