Movie Review: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I really enjoyed Rogue One from start to finish. Disney is now 2 for 2 in bringing this franchise not only back to the big screen, but in many ways they’ve been able to bring the Star Wars Universe back to life. They have put into the two movies they’ve released a sense of magic, hope, wonder, excitement that I thought was lost after the prequels were released. I wasn’t a man going on 44 years old when I watched this one and The Force Awakens, I was a kid again waiting anxiously for the movie to start. I have to say thank you to Disney for giving me that experience. I can’t wait see where they go next with this Universe.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to go off on a sidebar there. Rogue One is a great movie filled with a grand score, solid top-notch acting, action scenes that are spectacular to watch, and effects that aren’t overly loaded with CGI. The story is also strong and it never lags throughout any part of the movie. I was hooked from the opening scene to the last scene. If you enjoy Star Wars and the Universe around it then I don’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy this movie. About the only beef I had was that it didn’t have an opening scroll. When you see “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . .” you kind of expect to see a scroll after it. Just saying.

So, yes, I give this one high marks – 3 ½ stars out of 5.

Have you seen it? What did you think of it?
