I thought we might take a break on Mike Beem for a bit and focus in on some of my other stories for sell. Don’t worry we will get back to Mike from time to time. Trust me, he’s still fighting the good fight against all those zombies.
5 out of 5 Stars – Kudos for a new spin
Description: Another year. Another massacre looming. When the sun rises on the Old West town of Saltwater Junction this town will face head on two fierce predators. Vampires who stalk you in the sunlight, and werewolves that transform with the sunrise. This short story rewrites the legends and all you’ve ever known about these creatures of the night. Where do you go when there’s no place left to hide?
The sheriff sat in his office listening for the bells that signaled High Noon. He polished his silver star and put it back on his shirt. He loaded his two silver pistols, a brand that was slowly winning the west one shot at a time or so he had heard from those travelers passing through from the dusty trails of the southwest.
The sheriff looked up when heard the sound of hooves approaching in the distance, and glanced out his window. He could see the waves crashing on the beach, the yellow sand, and the bright sunshine. He always hated showdowns, because they not only disturbed the peace of his small town, but they took him to a dark and evil place. A place he didn’t like to go, but in this day and age he was forced to go there time and time again. How many showdowns at noon had he won? How many times had he been on the end of a barrel with a bullet in the chamber waiting for him? How many times had he stared down death in order to keep the peace? He didn’t have an exact number in his head, but he knew it was a lot.
The bells rang.
It was High Noon.
The sheriff stood up and put on his hat.
He slid his silver pistols into their brown leather holsters, each of them sporting smiling devils. Above the devils were small openings leading to pockets filled with holy water.
