Self-Publishing Updates and A Free Read – AWOL and Chill Bumps

This novel is back to one complete unit. I had it split up into two parts, but that didn’t help sales so I thought it might be time to pull the book back to the way it was meant to be. The only problem is the paperback is now $16.00 dollars, but the EBook is reasonable at $3.99. Today and tomorrow you can get this EBook at the whopping price of FREE!. That’s right, on 8/11 and 8/12 this book can be all yours free of charge. So, run on over and grab yourself a copy if you feel a desire to do so.

Here is the synopsis: How far will he go to get home? Will Vampires, Werewolves, Monsters, and Aliens deter him? What will he endure to find his family? Acclaimed author Anthony Renfro has a problem. As his fans wait anxiously for his next release, a character he has created tumbles out of the pages of his book and comes to life. With no clear story or plot in Anthony’s head, he must work together with this character in order to find out what story he belongs in before the critics and fans come pounding on Anthony’s door. AWOL: A Character Lost is a horror/science fiction novel about an author’s worst fears come to life.

EXP: The character sat up, shook the cobwebs free, and then stood on wobbly legs, leaning on the wall for support. “Hello?” He asked, looking around, blind in the dark, naked from head to toe.

A lamp appeared beside him. “At your right foot there is a kerosene lamp. Pick it up and turn it on.” As I write this, the words light up in big bright letters on the wall – neon words of pink and green. The character nearly falls over with the surprising light. When he gathers himself, he looks up at the wall. We can now communicate.

“Who are you?” The character turns on the lamp, and the small round room fills with light. He is standing on the concrete floor of a large silo, with infinite blackness above – stretching to the top of my imagination. “Where am I?” 10 doors surround him; they are black, dark, and ominous, with silver words written on them, reflecting the light.

“My name is Anthony, and I am the author who made you. I don’t know your name. I’m hoping you will find it along the way.” I paused. “You’ve stumbled out of your story, and you are back at the spot where I first created you. The problem is, I don’t know what story you came from.”

The character – five eight to five nine in height – read the words on the wall, and his heart sank.

“You stumbled out sometime last night, and I found you when I went in to search my brain for something to write about.”

This collection of six short stories is only available in EPUB. It isn’t available on Amazon, but you can get it anywhere else EBooks are sold (like IBooks, Nook, Kobo, etc.). It is currently on sale for $2.99.

6 Tales of Horror and Suspense

He sees people dancing around this fire. They are performing some kind of ritual. He turns to flee, but he’s captured. No chance of escape. He hopes he is only dreaming, because all of this seems a bit too real.

A Haunted House Tale: Five college students on Halloween night set out to discover the secrets of the town’s most infamous haunted house. Will these students live to see the morning or will this house claim five more victims?

Demon Energy: A short story about 1 man possessed and tormented by a 1000 demons who must fight for a soul he is starting to lose. Will he ever find salvation or is his body now an eternal host of hell?

Will he catch this monster in time or will this monster feed until it has its fill? Be careful Tim, this monster has a secret yet to be revealed.

Devil at the Wheel: A Joyride in a Chevy Chevelle. The car was just sitting there for the taking. What could possibly go wrong? Vinnie and Mike are about to find out what can and will go wrong once they turn the key. Evil awaits.

Blog Updates and Changes 2 and An Updated Cover for A Zombie Thanksgiving

I feel like I’ve been posting a bit too much lately, so I thought it might be nice to scale down a bit. This blog was meant for Haiku and Poetry, and most of you signed on for that. I hope those who did sign on for that are enjoying the new changes.

Anyway, starting this week I plan to change a few things in order to lighten the load on this blog and your inboxes (if you do get my updates in your inbox). Thursdays are now going to be my day to start posting a variety of things. Starting this week and next it will be two more of my cover reveals. After that, I will do some promoting on my latest releases (scheduled to come out in September), then start posting Cool Posters Thursday again (the last of the ones I have scheduled), and then close out the year with my Cheap Covers (that post will move off of Friday afternoons to Thursday mornings at 8). All of that will give those who follow me 5 scheduled posts a week – Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The poetry side of this blog is still going to be when the mood hits me, so that could be any hour, and day, any time of the week.

I also wanted to show you guys an updated cover for A Zombie Thanksgiving. I know last week I posted my latest cover for this short story. Well, James over at Go On Write decided to put his covers up for sale – 20 dollars until the end of June (if you need a cover then that is the place to get them). I managed to scrounge up twenty bucks from the dust and lint inside my pocket and below is the newest, latest, and officially final cover for A Zombie Thanksgiving. This short story now has a great eye-catching cover. What do you think?

Okay, that’s about it. Thanks again for working with me as I continue to evolve this blog.

Blog Updates and Changes

This site is now back to and it will stay that way for a while. I don’t know if that change was the reason why this blog had one of its worst weeks ever or if it was just the week itself. It could have been that early June is just the time for people to take vacations. Schools just let out. Families are heading off to do things together. The weather is warm. People want to be outside. I assume that is the reason why most of my posts dropped with few likes and my traffic died. It could be that changing this blog address caused the problem. I honestly don’t know, but I am planning to make changes to this blog as we speak.

First thing I plan to do is move One Writer Ranting over to here. I will then shut down that blog. That way I can focus all my efforts on just one place. That also means lots of new and exciting things for you guys that follow me on this blog. I posted a schedule below of what all the new stuff will be. Don’t worry, I plan to keep doing Haiku and Poetry on this site, but like I said in a post like this before it will be limited. I honestly don’t have a lot of Haiku popping into my head these days. I hope that muse will return soon, but at least you guys have some new stuff to view and enjoy while I wait for her return. I think I might also stop trying to create new blogs. This blog is running great. Why mess with it like I recently did? Right? Time to just make this one better. Okay, here is the schedule. I look forward to seeing you somewhere around the blog.

New Blog Schedule

Sunday: Tales from the Blog (One page of one of my stories each and every week at 6 A.M.).

Monday: Right now – Zip, Zero, Nada. This is my quiet day for now.

Tuesday: It will either be Tuesdays with Mike or Tuesday Promotions. Just a little self promotion for me and my stories.

Wednesday: Wednesday Quotes and for a short time Cover Reveals (though this is about to end). I also have a few other odds and ends I drop on this day.

Thursday: Cool Posters (this too is about to end).

Friday: Jimmy Buffett Friday and when they are available my Cheap Covers at 2 o’clock. I also occasionally do something concerning my stuff on Threadless.

Saturday: Again, Zip, Zero, Nada. This is my quiet day for now. Who knows? Cover Song Saturday might just return in the future.

That’s it. Thanks for putting up with me. Blogging (as most of you know) is a constant change. We bloggers are always striving to make our work stand out in a very crowded pack. That’s all I’m doing. I hope you like the changes.

I now have Swag: Clothes and Home Accessories

I now have shirts and home accessories available at Threadless. I want to thank the blog Little Fears for making me aware of this site. It is a great blog that you yourself should check out.

Below is some of the SWAG I have available. If you do buy something, send me an email and let me know what you bought and why. I will then send you a short story free of charge. I will also send you Zombie Beach before it is released in the fall.

Thanks again for supporting me.

New Short Story: Gluten Free

Suicide by Gluten? In this short story one man opts out in a most unusual way.

If you look above, that is another new short story available on Amazon. It is a short one, but I liked the cover so I decided to publish it.

I also have a few other new things to mention to you as well. My new blog is cruising along.

You can find it here –

I also have spread a few of my writings around the web.

You can now find Killer Treads and AWOL at these locations – Noise Trade and Draft2Digital.

That’s it. Have a great Sunday.

The Opening to Gluten Free

My name is Alan Category and by the time you read this I will be dead.  Yes, that’s not a typo.  My last name is Category.  I was born with it, mocked with it, lived with it, made love with it, got married three times with it, divorced twice with it, and folks, those reading this, I will die with it.  That name will be engraved on my tombstone right above my head where I will be lying six feet under the dirt, waiting on the worms to come and finish me off.  You see, I am Gluten Free and I am supposed to stay Gluten Free for the rest of my life. I have a rare condition, maybe four people in the entire world have it. Gluten is not just an allergy for me, but a killer. A bona-fide suck your soul out of your body and send it to heaven or hell killer. I have to worry about not only eating it, but getting it anywhere near my body.  I can’t even inhale it.  It is just that lethal for me.  And you know what?  I’m tired of thinking about it, tired of restricting my fucking diet, tired of fucking paying for it, just plain tired of trying live in a world that isn’t Gluten fucking Free.  I’m also tired of worrying about my weight, tired of exercise, tired of just doing it all for that fucking bitch who ripped out my heart and shat all over it. You see, I love pizza and I haven’t had it for so very long.  Sure, I’ve had the Gluten Free stuff, some of it isn’t bad, but that shit ain’t pizza.  That melt in your mouth traditional kind of pizza that makes your knees buckle. Almost gives you an orgasm kind of pizza. It just isn’t and won’t ever be no matter how they try to make it seem that way. Anyway, off on a rant there for a minute.  Where was I?  Damn my hand is cramping up. Fucking arthritis. Sucks to get old, but shit I don’t have to be getting older very much longer. (I chuckled here in case one of my bitch ex-wives reads this, yes bitch, I went out laughing). Anyway, once again, you see pizza is the most lethal thing I can eat.  I was told that by my doctor. Cunt! She said pizza would kill me instantly, and I have avoided it till tonight.  Till this very night. But now, I’ve decided it is the best way to go out even if it is a fucking rip off. 20 damn bucks for extra cheese, thick crust, and meat – total bullshit! So my suicide will be self-inflicted, but it won’t be the way most people opt out, cash in the check so to speak – gun in mouth, brains splattered across the wall, hanging from a self-made noose, leaping off a tall building, you know the drill. My suicide will be a little more painful.  Wait, what’s that?  I hear a car pulling up outside, footsteps on the gravel parking lot, footsteps on the concrete stoop in front of my door, a knock, my death rattle.  Okay, folks, let me answer that door.

Free Read for Sunday (2/26/2017): sHe

Yes, that is a new cover for sHe.

What do you think of it?

Here’s how to get your free copy.

She began to cry.

It was one of those pathetic cries, filled with self-pity, and frustration. She had dreamed of so much more for herself than this at thirty two years of age. She wanted to be a writer, maybe a Graphic Designer with a family in the Burbs somewhere by now. She had never dreamed she would be stuck in a job with no future, living alone on a paycheck-to-paycheck budget. Dreams die hard when dreams decide to die.

She turned towards the door when something caught her attention. There was light pushing into the room around the edges of it.

She rolled off the bed, put on a pair of shorts and a tee-shirt, and then grabbed the loaded gun lying on top of the nightstand. She cocked it, and walked with slow caution towards the door that led into her apartment. Her heart was pounding in her chest, as her lungs filled with heavy air.

She reached the door, and slipped her hands into the light. It had texture. It was warm, and soothing, and glowing yellow-gold. She felt love in that light. A hope of a family. A wanting of a child.

Rip out some Flesh! Zombie Freebies Take 2

When Mike Beem’s community is savagely attacked, he must exact revenge on those who wronged him. He must put aside all the good he has ever accomplished in order to become someone else. A man without a moral compass. A man without right or wrong. A man who is a cold blooded killer. Will he get his justice or will he die trying? The answers lie within the pages of this short story.

It is the start of the Walking Dead this weekend, and though I have soured on the show (thanks Negan!) it still doesn’t mean I can’t get in on the excitement. I have decided to offer all of my zombie based stories free on Saturday and Sunday. Follow the links above to get your copy of the story of your choosing. Thanks again for reading this blog.

Mike raced down the street towards Benny’s white two room house, black combat boots smacking the ground underneath him. The gear he was wearing was slowing his pace, so he moved as fast as he could. Thankful he was at least wearing camo pants today. Their fabric was loose, cool, and comfortable.

When he reached the house, he slowed his pace, and moved up to the gate. It was hanging open, so he stepped through and made his way up the sidewalk to the porch. Two zombies (a man and a woman) on his left caught his attention. They had their arms around each other, swinging in the porch swing like lovers lost in love. He shot them both with two quick head shots before they could stand. They tumbled to the floor in a heap, and laid there unmoving side by side. Their weird zombie love thing now extinguished.

Mike turned to face the door, which was hanging open. The sun may have been shining, but it was dark inside the house. He took out his flashlight, put it into his mouth, cocked his gun, and stepped into the black.

Here is a list of the other stories I have running free: A Zombie Christmas 1 and 2, A Zombie Holiday Trilogy, Flesh for the Zombies, A Zombie New Year’s Eve, Vampires and Zombies, and A Zombie Thanksgiving.
