Tales from the Blog (8/13/2017): Devil at the Wheel 11

The radio fell silent, as the car sat there and idled or did it growl–the boys could have sworn they just heard that noise coming from underneath the hood.

Mike and Vinnie looked at one another.

“Mike. What the hell’s going on?”

“I don’t know, Vin.”

“You must have been running her too hard?”

“Please. My uncle runs her harder than this.”

“Hello, Gentleman.” The radio replied, as the door locks clicked into place, trapping them.

“What the hell’s going on, Mike!”

The boys yanked on the door handles, but they weren’t budging no matter how much they tugged on them . . . to be continued next Sunday at 6 A.M. Did you miss a post? Check out the Category “Tales from the Blog” in order to catch up. Have a great Sunday.

Self-Publishing Updates and A Free Read – AWOL and Chill Bumps

This novel is back to one complete unit. I had it split up into two parts, but that didn’t help sales so I thought it might be time to pull the book back to the way it was meant to be. The only problem is the paperback is now $16.00 dollars, but the EBook is reasonable at $3.99. Today and tomorrow you can get this EBook at the whopping price of FREE!. That’s right, on 8/11 and 8/12 this book can be all yours free of charge. So, run on over and grab yourself a copy if you feel a desire to do so.

Here is the synopsis: How far will he go to get home? Will Vampires, Werewolves, Monsters, and Aliens deter him? What will he endure to find his family? Acclaimed author Anthony Renfro has a problem. As his fans wait anxiously for his next release, a character he has created tumbles out of the pages of his book and comes to life. With no clear story or plot in Anthony’s head, he must work together with this character in order to find out what story he belongs in before the critics and fans come pounding on Anthony’s door. AWOL: A Character Lost is a horror/science fiction novel about an author’s worst fears come to life.

EXP: The character sat up, shook the cobwebs free, and then stood on wobbly legs, leaning on the wall for support. “Hello?” He asked, looking around, blind in the dark, naked from head to toe.

A lamp appeared beside him. “At your right foot there is a kerosene lamp. Pick it up and turn it on.” As I write this, the words light up in big bright letters on the wall – neon words of pink and green. The character nearly falls over with the surprising light. When he gathers himself, he looks up at the wall. We can now communicate.

“Who are you?” The character turns on the lamp, and the small round room fills with light. He is standing on the concrete floor of a large silo, with infinite blackness above – stretching to the top of my imagination. “Where am I?” 10 doors surround him; they are black, dark, and ominous, with silver words written on them, reflecting the light.

“My name is Anthony, and I am the author who made you. I don’t know your name. I’m hoping you will find it along the way.” I paused. “You’ve stumbled out of your story, and you are back at the spot where I first created you. The problem is, I don’t know what story you came from.”

The character – five eight to five nine in height – read the words on the wall, and his heart sank.

“You stumbled out sometime last night, and I found you when I went in to search my brain for something to write about.”

This collection of six short stories is only available in EPUB. It isn’t available on Amazon, but you can get it anywhere else EBooks are sold (like IBooks, Nook, Kobo, etc.). It is currently on sale for $2.99.

“That’s a long time to be on your own.”

“It is, Captain. It truly is,” Mike replied and turned back to the window, as a gust of wind lifted up a pile of snow and tossed it across the ground.

“Do you need anything before I turn in?” Captain asked, using his cane to stand up. He tossed his cigar into the fire and stood there a moment warming himself. “We can talk more in the morning about how to get to my boat. Let the brain rest a bit.”

“I’m good,” Mike replied, turning around again. “I do appreciate this. Not many options out there this warm and inviting.”

“Think nothing of it. My house is your house. Good night. Blankets are in the hallway closet along with a pillow or two if you need them,” Captain replied, and exited the room.

“Good night,” Mike replied, and turned back to the window. His mind still churning, trying to figure out how to get down to the boat without getting both of them killed.
