Haiku – Iron Will

Hate now in power

Guilty before innocent

Freedom sacrificed

I heard this great song yesterday and it made me think about the way America is currently doing business at home and abroad. I thought I might write a Haiku based off of it. I think, no matter how you voted, it is time to stop the hate and learn to find a great middle ground. We can’t make “America Great Again” if we don’t work together to do it. I am a Democrat, and I will admit that. But they need to shut up and work with Trump. Trump also needs to put on his big boy pants and start learning to compromise. We can’t put in bans like we currently have without stirring up a whole lot of trouble. I agree we have been lax in some areas of this country throughout the years, but bans don’t work. They don’t keep out the bad they just incite more anger, and those we are trying to stop just add fuel to their fire. There has to be a better way to handle our politics than what we have now.

If you decide to leave a comment. Make it productive. I don’t mind a solid discussion, but let’s not get down to childish name calling.

Okay, have a great weekend. Here’s the song.

LYRICS

If I could kill a word and watch it die
I’d poison never, shoot goodbye
Beat regret when I felt I had the nerve
Yeah, I’d pound fear to a pile of sand
Choke lonely out with my bare hands
I’d hang hate so that it can’t be heard
If I could only kill a word
I’d take brokenness out back
And break heartbreak, stand there and laugh
Right in its face while shootin’ it the bird
I’d put upset down in its place
I’d squeeze the life out of disgrace
Lay over under six cold feet of dirt
If I could only kill a word
Give me sticks, give stones
Bend my body, break my bones
Use staff and rod to turn me black and blue
‘Cause you can’t unhear, you can’t unsay
But if were up to me to change
I’d turn lies and hate to love and truth
If I could only kill a word
I’d knock out temptation’s teeth
I’d sever evil, let it bleed
Then light up wicked, stand and watch it burn
I’d take vice and I’d take vile
And tie ’em up there with hostile
Hang ’em high and leave ’em for the birds
If I could only kill a word
So give me sticks, give stones
Bend my body, break my bones
Use staff and rod to turn me black and blue
‘Cause you can’t unhear, you can’t unsay
But if were up to me to change
I’d turn lies and hate to love and truth
If I could only kill a word
If I could only kill a word

His friends joined him a second later, and the gear was quickly swept up by all five of them. With gear in hand and five flashlights beaming, they walked over to the gate and stopped. This gate was attached to a silver rusty fence, which was broken in many spots as it made its way around the forgotten yard. Kevin pulled the gate open, and it let out a screech that sounded like a scream, as the rusty hinges were forced back into service. He stepped onto the broken sidewalk, which was mostly tall grass and weeds now, and led the way to the busted porch.

The others, of course, followed him.

When they reached the porch, they stopped. The six wooden steps that led onto it were mostly broken, and the rotten rails were detached and laying in the overgrown shrubbery, so they all took their time getting onto this porch with the gear in hand.

Once on the porch, which was creaking and moaning and generally pissed off that someone was standing on it, they could see that the front door with the busted lock had a “No Trespassing!” sign slanted sideways across it.
